Introduction: Book Review of Beautiful Creatures
Oh my goodness, ya’ll. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved this book. I’ve been putting off reading it for a while. I think I’ve downloaded the audio book from my library about 5 times before I actually listened to it.
Description from Goodreads:
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
Personal Thoughts on Beautiful Creatures
I read a few reviews that said they didn’t like Ethan’s “voice” in the book – maybe it was because I listened to it and the guy reading it was like sex on a stick but I loved him from the moment I started listening.
I loved the history behind it about the South and I loved some of the characters. Lena’s uncle, Macon, was such an interesting character and I loved every scene he was in. I totally bought into the Lena and Ethan relationship and did want the book to end even though I went back and forth between listening to and reading it so I could finish it faster.
I will be picking up the second book in the series, Beautiful Darkness, when it comes out October 12th!
