G00d Reads Description of Beautiful Darkness
Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed.
Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along.
- A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks.
- A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena’s family of powerful supernaturals for generations.
- A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.
Sometimes life-ending.
Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship.
And now that Ethan’s eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there’s no going back.
Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town’s tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.
Personal Thoughts on Beautiful Darkness
Oh, how I loved this book! I didn’t read Beautiful Creatures that long ago, maybe a month or so but I thought this book would never come out.
I thought I had it the Saturday before it was supposed to come out – they had put it out at Target early but when I went to check out it wouldn’t go through.
I was so sad, ya’ll!
This book picks up where Beautiful Creatures left off with our characters dealing with the things that happened at the end of the book.
It’s so hard to even say anything without ruining Beautiful Creatures for you!
Teenage Love in Beautiful Darkness
But with Lena pulling away and Ethan struggling with the trials going on in his life the book takes you on a different journey with Ethan and Lena. The teen love angst was definitely felt more in this story but it was definitely needed and what made the story that much more enjoyable.
I flew through this book though. There was so much going on and it was different from Beautiful Creatures but in a good way.
I loved Ethan even more in this one.
I love that the voice in this book is a guy – you don’t see that a lot in YA books. And guys can be just as tortured and in love as girls.
Book Review Conclusion
If you haven’t read these – pick them up. They are completely fantastic and with THAT ending (!!) I can’t wait for the next one!
(Oh, I also listened to some of – definitely still love the guy reading them.)
