The Christmas Box Books
In the early 1990s, while working as an advertising executive, Richard Paul Evans began penning his first novel, The Christmas Box. He wrote the story as a gift to his children, printing a few dozen additional copies to share amongst his family and friends. But as word of his captivating story spread far and wide, demand began to grow, so he decided to self-publish his work on a larger scale.
Soon, The Christmas Box was selling out bookstores around his hometown of Salt Lake City, and before long, it had become a global phenomenon. It reached number 2 on the New York Times Bestsellers list, and publishers worldwide were desperate to snap up the rights to the book.
In 1995, Richard Paul Evans sold his smash hit surprise to publisher Simon & Schuster. The official re-release became the first book in history to reach number one on the New York Times Bestsellers list in hardback and paperback editions.
The incredible success of this holiday classic prompted Evans to pen two follow-up stories, completing The Christmas Box trilogy.
The series debut tells the emotionally charged story of a widow who opens her home to a young family. Together, they celebrate a Christmas unlike any other they’ve known before.

After all, they’re both lonely; maybe it’ll even be fun.
And so, they draw up a contract with some simple rules; no drama, deep, personal questions, and no telling anyone about their agreement. And when December 24th rolls around, their contract becomes null and void.
