Virgin River is a series of contemporary romance novels written by American author Robyn Carr.
The first book was published back in 2007, and since then, the series has attracted a massive readership around the world. And after the recent smash hit Netflix adaptation, Robyn Carr’s fanbase just got a whole lot bigger, once again.
The stories are set in the small fictional mountain town of the Virgin River, in the heart of California’s Redwood Forest. Home to just 600 residents, this is the kind of place where everybody knows everybody, and secrets rarely remain a secret for long.
But despite the gossiping neighbors, Virgin River is a warm and welcoming place, and once you start reading this feel-good series, you’ll probably wish you could move there yourself!

There are currently 21 books in Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series, and the author has recently announced a brand-new installment which will be published later this year.
Each book focuses on a new set of characters, and as you work your way through the series, you’ll get to know the entire community.
You don’t necessarily need to read these titles in publication order, but there are quite a few interweaving storylines and references to earlier characters, particularly in the first ten books. So, if you’re currently a Virgin River virgin, I’d recommend starting with book one and following the publication order that I’ve listed below.
1. Virgin River (2007)
Melinda Munroe leaves her life in the city behind and heads to the peaceful serenity of the Virgin River to reignite her nursing career and find a fresh start.
But when she arrives, her new home isn’t quite what she expected. Deciding she’s made a mistake, she gets ready to leave, but a surprise on the front porch leads to a last-minute change of plan.
2. Shelter Mountain (2007)
Single mother Paige Lassiter is in trouble, and she knows she needs help. But when she meets the kind-hearted ex-marine, John Middleton, she’s blown away by his kindness.
Yet just as these two lonely hearts begin to bond, Paige’s ex-husband arrives, and things suddenly get complicated.
3. Whispering Rock (2007)
After years of working in California’s broken criminal justice system, Brie Sheridan and Mike Valenzuela both have their fair share of baggage.

20. My Kind of Christmas (2012)
Patrick Riordan was heartbroken at the tragic loss of his best friend, and so he sought comfort in the arms of a beautiful young woman named Angie.
Now, Patrick and Angie are looking forward to their first Christmas together as a couple, and they’re determined to spend it by themselves. But only if their families will let them.
21. Return to Virgin River (2020)
Best-selling author Kaylee Sloan is still grieving after her mother’s death, so she decides to throw herself headfirst into her next book. But there’s just one problem; she’s suffering from a crippling case of writer’s block, and the words just won’t come.
And so, she heads to the peace and tranquility of the Virgin River, hoping her inspiration will return.
But she finds much more than ideas for her next novel; she finds a loving community that embraces her with open arms and gives her a reason to smile again.
